1. Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing, registering for, or using the AluNet mobile application or any related services (‘Service’), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (‘Terms’) and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated herein by reference. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Service.
These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you (‘User’) and AluNet (‘we’, ‘our’, ‘us’), operated from the Netherlands.
2. Description of the service
AluNet is a social networking application that enables users to:
- Create and maintain a profile with location, work, and academic information
- View where connections are located and travelling
- Log planned trips and discover network overlap
- Communicate with connections via in-app chat and signals
- Receive notifications about relevant network activity
AluNet does not guarantee any specific connections, outcomes, employment results, or reunions.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Service. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older and that the information you provide is accurate, complete, and current.
Our standards for protecting minors from harm are set out in our Child Safety Standards.
4. Account registration & security
- You must provide accurate and truthful registration information
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials
- You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account
- You may not create multiple accounts or impersonate any person or entity
- We reserve the right to reject or remove any account name we deem inappropriate
5. User responsibilities & conduct
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree NOT to:
- Upload false, misleading, or inaccurate profile information
- Harass, threaten, stalk, or abuse other users
- Use the Service for spam, commercial solicitation, or unsolicited contact
- Harvest or collect other users’ data, email addresses, or personal information
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access or extract data
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app
- Introduce malware, viruses, or any harmful code
- Circumvent any security or access control features
- Use the Service in any manner that violates applicable law
6. User content
6.1 Your content
You retain ownership of content you submit (profile text, photos, trip information). By submitting content, you grant AluNet a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, sublicensable licence to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content within the Service for its intended purpose.
6.2 Aggregated statistics
We may produce aggregated statistics that cannot be linked to you or to any individual — for example, the number of AluNet users from a given university or country — as described in Section 5.3 of the Privacy Policy. We do not sell your personal data.
6.3 Content standards
You represent that all content you submit is accurate, does not infringe any third-party rights, and does not violate applicable law. We reserve the right to remove content that violates these Terms.
7. Intellectual property
All intellectual property in the AluNet app, including software, design, algorithms and branding, is owned by or licensed to AluNet. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on AluNet’s intellectual property without prior written consent.
8. Privacy & data
Our collection and use of personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you acknowledge and agree to the data practices described therein.
9. Third-party services
The Service integrates third-party services including Mapbox for map functionality. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. AluNet is not responsible for third-party services.
10. Fees & payment
AluNet is currently free to use. We reserve the right to introduce paid features or subscription tiers in the future, with advance notice provided to users.
11. Account termination
11.1 By you
You may delete your account at any time from within the app — open the profile tab, go to Settings and choose Delete account — or by contacting alunetapp@gmail.com. Upon deletion, your personal data will be handled as described in Section 8 of the Privacy Policy. See also the account deletion page.
11.2 By AluNet
We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate your account, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent or illegal activity, or if required by law. Upon termination, your licence to use the Service ceases immediately.
12. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ‘AS IS’ AND ‘AS AVAILABLE’ WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ALUNET DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING:
- Merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement
- Uninterrupted, error-free, or secure availability of the Service
- Accuracy or reliability of any content or user information
- That the Service will meet your specific requirements or expectations
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ALUNET AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:
- Indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages
- Loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business opportunities
- Damages arising from reliance on user-provided information
- Unauthorised access to or alteration of your data
Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the greater of EUR 50 or the amount you paid to AluNet in the 12 months preceding the claim.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless AluNet and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.
15. Governing law & dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of the Netherlands, specifically the courts of Rotterdam or Amsterdam.
You may also have rights under applicable consumer protection laws in your country of residence that cannot be waived by these Terms.
16. Changes to terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification or email at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
17. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
18. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and AluNet regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements or understandings.
